Trunk Show with Janet Scruggs

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Janet Scruggs has been involved in textiles and fibre art for more than 40 years. Over the years, she has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally, winning several awards for her artwork. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary as well as a City and Guilds of London Level 3 Certificate in Design and Stitched Textiles (Hand Embroidery).

Jan has a passion for teaching and mentoring others in fibre and textile arts. For many years, Jan taught and mentored others in an experimental textile group, the Fibre Optics Group. She and her husband moved from Calgary to Kamloops in 2016 where she continues to pursue her own artistic growth as well as teaching art design methods and principles, as well as textile techniques. As a member of Kamloops Arts Council, Fibre Art Network and SAQA, she exhibits her work through these organizations, as well as art galleries as opportunities arise.

Jan likes experimenting with various surface design techniques in creating her art pieces, incorporating painting, felting, quilting, hand embroidery, and other mixed media processes.

Lecture by Janet Scruggs: Can Anyone Design?

We are attracted to art, usually of a particular type, and we all have a desire to be creative. It might seem daunting but creating your own unique art, of whatever style, is fun and easier than you think.

Understanding the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design can give us a solid foundation on which to base our practice of design Janet Scrugg’s lecture will touch on those important elements and principles as well as lead you through a simple design exercise.

If you wish to participate in the simple design exercise: You should bring pencils, scissors, glue stick, pencil crayons or felt pens and a hard surface such as a book, or clipboard to work on.

Motivational Day

September 10, 2019

Our meeting was cancelled in February due to winter storms and we are delighted that the Motivational Day was able to be rescheduled. A special thanks to all who have agreed to be presenters. We have several of our own members (listed below) talking about a Favorite Quilt. Find out what inspired the quilt’s concept and creation, any new techniques learned, who the designer is, where they were when the inspiration consumed them or any other information leading up to the completion of the Quilt.
