QUILT CANADA 2010 Winds of inspiration– Calgary, Alberta We have received a request for donations to the “goodie” bags which each participant receives upon arrival at the conference. In the past the FVQG members have made & donated small fabric items. CQA did an informal survey as to items the participants would like to receive with the response of current fat quarters, thread & needles. If you have any ideas, patterns or prototypes of items which our members could make, approx. 200 pieces, please contact me and we can arrange to receive your sample which I will present at the next Executive meeting. The Quilt Canada organizing committee would also like to continue the tradition of giving quilted table toppers to conference delegates and are in need of 600-700 of them. Toppers may be round, square, octagonal – any theme or fabrics – and up to 30” across. The three themes of the evening dinners are Italian, Asian and Western, if you need inspiration. Donations are most welcome from individuals or groups. For any donations, please email Nancy Thornton Smith at voulunteerqc@telus.net

Girl Guides of Canada are celebrating their centennial this year and Quilt Canada has kindly invited Girl Guides to put on a Special Exhibit of ‘100 years of Guiding’ in quilts. Girl Guides have been making quilt for years, and we would love to display them all, but many have been made as service projects and given away to those in need. Others have been made as gifts for retiring Guiders while others have been raffled off to raise funds for camps and activities. We have managed to borrow a number of quilts to exhibit, but we would also like to have a photo display. If you have a photo of quilt made by Girl Guides or photo of a quilt being presented or donated by Girl Guides, we would like to include this as well.

If you have a photo that you would like to share with us, please include as much information about the photo as possible, eg name of photographer, date of photo and/or quilt, who made it and/or presented/donated it, as well as the history or story about the quilt (why was the quilt made?). Please send your high resolution photo in JPEG format (along with its story) to program@albertagirlguides.com before February 15, 2010.
