Val Smith and her team: Update on her amazing fundraising efforts

Hi everyone!

I did intend to do an update on the quilt show and fundraising before now, but it seems that something always got in the way. But let me first say that the show was a huge success and a thrilling experience for me. So many friends dropped by to wish me well and see the quilts. I rarely had a chance to catch my breath. I was quite tired by the end of each day, but it was truly a satisfying kind of fatigue.
This is what the show looked like when hung on the Thursday. (It’s actually a straight wall but was shot in “panoramic” view which accounts for the distortion.)
A big thanks to my team. I could not have done it without their work before, during and after the show….. Robin, Elena, Donna
And final team member, Cher (on left).
We never could get everyone together for one shot!
An example of the the crowds we had for the show.
But the highlight of the two days was definitely this young boy (that I later learned was Levi) who was completely engaged in “designing” his own art quilt!
And now for the final tally…..
By the end of the show, 23 of the 27 quilts were sold! Absolutely more than I ever dreamed possible! At this point, I am just getting ready to complete the final deposits to the BC Cancer Foundation. It looks like the sales from the show, when added to the fundraising on my personal page, have brought the total to over $18,000! I am overwhelmed and honoured by the support of so many people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
