FABRICS:
Background: green (grass) and a light to
medium blue (sky) Wagon: various red brights and/or
red kid prints
Step 1:
Make main wagon unit (5 1/2 x 8 1/4 in.) Your
choice of design, for example: a) Scrappy patches -
up to eight fabrics Cut eight 2 1/2 x 3 in.
rectangles; sew into 2 rows of 4 rectangles then sew
rows together b) Length-wise stripes - 2 fabrics
Fabric one: Cut 2 strips: 1 3/4 x 8 1/4 in.
Fabric two: Cut 1 strip: 3 x 8 1/4 in.
-Sew strips together with the 3 in. strip in the
middle c) One great fabric - cut a 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 in.

Step 2:
Background and Wagon handle Blue: cut one
each: 2 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. - sky above wagon (A) 1 1/2
x 12 1/2 in. - sky under wagon (B) 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 in.
- sky behind wagon (C) 4 x 5 1/2 in. - sky in front
of wagon (D) Green: cut one strip 2 1/2 x 12 1/2in.
(E) Red (handle): cut one 1 x 4 1/2 and one 1 x 1
3/4 in. Press under 1/4 in. on long sides of both
strips and all sides of short strip. Place long
handle on the 4 x 5 1/2 (D) Pin in place so lower
raw edge will be caught in seam. Sew: Sky fabric B
and green E together Sky fabric C to back of wagon
Sky fabric D to front of wagon Sky
B and Green E to bottom of wagon Sky A sky to top of
wagon
Step 3:
Wheels and Handle Appliqué (Please do not use
fusibles or invisible thread) Cut an approximately
2 1/2 in. diameter circle of light cardboard.
Roughly cut two 4 in. circles of a red fabric that
will standout from the wagon. Hand baste around edge
of fabric; gather around cardboard circle; press &
remove cardboard circle. Position wheels and handle
as in diagram and appliqué by machine or hand . |
