Jan 2003 sketchCUT:
Eight 3 ¾" squares Ivory/tone-on-tone background. (**2½" + 1¼" = 3¾")
Eight 3 ¾" squares assorted Blues, Violets and Purples (medium and dark)

** Using the quick-piecing instructions below, make 16 half-square triangle units. Trim to 3", sew together in rows, pressing seams in alternate directions. Assemble block as shown.


QUICK-PIECED half-square triangles:
  Add 1¼" to the finished measurement.
(e.g. for a **2½" unit you will cut squares of 3¾"; 3" =4¼"; 3½" = 4¾"; 4" = 5¼"; 4½" = 5¾"; etc.
  Cut 2 squares of the required size and draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one of the squares.
  Place the squares right sides together; sew ¼" away from each side of the drawn diagonal line.
  Cut on the drawn line. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric.
  Matching the 45° line on your ruler to the diagonal seam, trim with your rotary cutter to required size.
