Method 1If your 1/4" seam isnt very accurate cut your squares 7/8" larger than the size of the square you need. Place right sides together. Mark a diagonal line on the back of the lightest square. Sew a 1/4"seam on both sides of the diagonal line and cut along the diagonal line. Press towards dark and then use a ruler to cut to size. (I use the bias square ruler) This way your half square triangles are accurate.
Method 2You can make them simply by cutting your square of fabric 1/2" larger than the size of the square you need. Cut on the diagonal and sew. You need to have a very accurate seam for this method.
