Use muslin for background and true autumn colours for leaves and stem.

Cut
Leaf Three 3 1/2" Squares
Two 3 7/8" Squares, cut to form four triangles
Stem One strip 1" X 6" of leaf colour
Background One 3 1/3" Square
Three 3 7/8" Squares, cut to form six triangles

sketch 2Assembly: (note: all seams 1/4")
Join triangles to make squares as in diagram, leaving two background triangles, to make stem section.
For stem: with right sides together, line up 1" x 6" strip and sew leaving 1/2" overhang at both ends. Press seam allowance toward stem.
Sew squares together in rows as in diagram to form block.
